Ken Diplock

Ken Diplock is the coordinator of the Bachelor of Environmental Public Health (BEPH) program at Conestoga College, where he is devoted to educating and training future environmental public health professionals. Ken’s focus areas include food safety, public health inspection and investigation practices, and environmental health. Before joining Conestoga, Ken was a certified public health inspector with the Region of Waterloo Public Health. Ken was previously engaged with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI), serving as the Ontario Branch Food Safety Councilor (2006-08), and Branch President (2010-2012).

Peter Heywood

Peter Heywood is a leader at Southwestern Public Health, where he spearheads a diverse team of passionate public health professionals dedicated to shaping healthier communities. With a focus on advancing healthy public policy through innovative, community-driven solutions, Peter inspires collaboration and positive change at every turn.

As the co-chair of the Oxford Mental Health and Addictions Action Coalition, he is on the front lines of transforming policy into actionable grassroots initiatives, making a real impact on mental health and wellness in the community. With an MPA from Western University, Peter brings a wealth of expertise in performance management and human capital investment, driving his team's mission forward.

A devoted member of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors for over 25 years, Peter has contributed extensively, holding various roles including Secretary-Treasurer and President, and actively participating on multiple committees.

In his downtime, Peter embraces adventure – whether he’s mountain biking, playing squash, or enjoying time with his family. He believes in stepping outside his comfort zone, which is why he’s taken up swimming lessons in recent years; proving that learning new things can be a thrilling challenge at any stage of life!

John Cannan

Past President, CIPHI Ontario Branch

Graduated from Ryerson Polytechnic University in 1996 and worked for Chatham-Kent PHU from 1996-2006. He worked for Hasting Prince Edward Public Health from 2006 until he retired in July 2023.

John was the Health Promotion Councillor from 2007-2013. In 2016, he became President-elect, and President in 2018. John accepted the position of Branch Historian in 2021. In Jan 2023 he took over again as Branch President.

John has been a CIPHI member since 1994, and has participated on numerous BOC exams as well as CoPE, BOC and NEC appeal panels.

His hobbies include golf, scuba diving, sky diving, camping and kayaking.

Abby Tabaco

Abby is a graduate from BCIT and started her career as a Certified Public Health Inspector in 2019 with Saskatchewan Health Authority. She then moved to Ontario in April 2020 to work as a PHI with Haliburton Kawartha Pine RIdge District Health Unit. She is currently the Emergency Management Health Hazard Coordinator with HKPRDHU.

Jordan Shorey

Jordan obtained his Chemical Engineering Technologist and Biotechnology Technician diplomas before graduating from the Bachelor of Environmental Public Health (BEPH) program at Conestoga College. Jordan held a variety of student positions with Middlesex London Health Unit, York Region Public Health and Peterborough Public Health before becoming certified in 2020. Jordan was a Public Health Inspector at Brant County Health Unit (2020 – 2021). In 2021 Jordan moved to Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit where he’s currently a PHI.

Fatih Sekercioglu

Fatih Sekercioglu is an associate professor at the Toronto Metropolitan University's School of Occupational and Public Health and director of the Planetary Health Research Lab. He graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2004. He holds a master’s degrees in food safety and quality assurance from the University of Guelph and business administration from Wilfrid Laurier University. He completed his doctoral studies in geography at Western University. He holds an adjunct professor appointment at Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine Dentistry.

Before joining Toronto Metropolitan University in July 2019, he was a lecturer in the Department of Geography at Western University and an environmental health manager with the Middlesex-London Health Unit. Throughout his 15-year public health career, he also worked as a child and family health manager, and vector-borne disease program coordinator and public health inspector. Fatih has been a CIPHI Board of Certification (BOC) examiner for ten years and was a CIPHI National Exam Panel member (2012-2019). He was also appointed as the CIPHI ON Branch BOC Committee representative between May 2018 and July 2019.

Breanna Badea

Breanna is a graduate of the Bachelor of Environmental Public Health program at Conestoga College. Following her certification in 2022, she has continued her career as a public health inspector at the Region of Waterloo Public Health.

CIPHI Ontario is one of eight branches under the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors. It has the largest branch membership, with 550 of the 1,200 national members.

Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors exists to protect the health of Canadians, to represent all Environmental Public Health Professionals also referred to as Public Health Inspectors, across Canada, and to advance the profession, science and field of environmental public health through certification, advocacy, education and setting standards.

Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors is the only national professional association for Environmental Public Health Professionals in Canada. No other organization covers the continuum of environmental public health: food protection; drinking-water quality; on-site wastewater disposal; indoor air quality; epidemiology; tobacco reduction; communicable diseases and many other environmental health initiatives.
